Welcome to the “Is it Summer Yet?” Blog Hop!

Here in Carpenter Country, summer begins on Saturday, June 21, so we guess the actual answer to the question “Is It Summer Yet?” is no. Fortunately, we never let technicalities get in the way of a good party. After all, to paraphrase a country song, it’s summer somewhere.

So, even though summer has not yet officially begun, we intend to commence celebrating sun, sand, and reading. And this year we have a big reason to celebrate–our latest young adult novel, Walled In, was just published, and the story is set in–you guessed it!–summertime.

Walled In is the story of Vandy Spencer, who discovers her entire life has been built on a heart-shattering deception when her father is accused of fraud. In an effort to sort things out, she retreats to her childhood tree house. The title is a play on Walden, the book by Henry David Thoreau because Vandy learns to appreciate the simple richness of sincerity and truth.

While writing Walled In, we re-read Walden, and discovered there’s a lot of truth in the Clifton Fadiman saying “When you reread a classic, you do not see more in the book than you did before, you see more in you than there was before.” (If you’d like to re-read Walden, subscribe to our email newsletter, and you’ll be able to instantly download a free PDF version.)

Whatever is on your reading list this summer, we hope you celebrate the pleasure of seeing more in yourself than you saw before.

To help you get started, we signed up for the Is It Summer Yet? Blog Hop taking place Monday, May 26 to Sunday, June 1, 2014. 1. I think one of my summer readings will be the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day (if she ever releases book 3, a little frustrated with the waiting :/ ) otherwise, I think it will include a lot of shifter books since I am really beginning to enjoy them 🙂

  2. I’m from the UK so summer to me means waiting for it to arrive…which could be in the middle of November or February or June…one just never knows. LOL. My reading is as varied as the seasons.

    1. Thanks for commenting, Sharon. Good thing reading is fun no matter the time of year!

  3. Congratulations on your new release! I’ve got the contemporary romance series, Barefoot in the Sand, by Roxanne St. Clair on my reading list for the summer.

    1. It’s difficult to decide whether wishing for the July release date to get here makes up for wishing half the summer away…okay, not so tough–it’s worth it for a good book! 🙂

  4. I’ll probably get Dreams of God & Monsters this summer. It’s been on my to-read list forever.
