“I think it was my fault. He looked really scared when I suggested you drive him home in Bradley’s truck. He probably snuck out of the house to go with us, or else he didn’t tell his father where he was going. If you had driven him home, he’d be in deep trouble.” Nessa turned Harey loose, and the rabbit streaked into the greenhouse, spry as a young hare.
Jack looked at the FRESH PEACHES jar. The water sample sparkled under the light of the lamp. He tinked a fingernail against the glass, hardly believing he’d found the Fountain again. Not wanting to believe he might die because he had.
He had to call Tia Bella. Once the airports in Florida re-opened after Hurricane Lulu, she could catch the first flight from California. Even if the spring vanished again, he’d show her the sample and where it had surfaced, and tell her what he feared might happen. Together they’d figure out what to do.
