“Let’s go,” Tenspot said. “After we find Harey, I’ll mark the trail all the way to the house. We’ll be able to find our way to the Fountain blindfolded, in the dark.”

Jack said, “But what if there’s nothing to find when we come back? What if the hurricane makes it disappear?”

“Why would it?” Nessa asked, and he told her what he feared. She handed him the FRESH PEACHES jar. “Then you need to get a sample of the water.”

Jack stood, staring at the spring, clutching the container so tightly his fingers turned white. “A small sample like this won’t be enough.”

“It will be. Trust me. I have an idea.”

“I do trust you.” He looked at the sky. “It’s Hurricane Lulu I’m not sure about.”
