“Drinking from the Fountain is a curse worse than death.”
Nessa said, “Why? Lots of people would pay a ton of money for the chance to remain forever young.”
“They’re fools. Believe me, it is a curse. The joy of life is its uncertainty. I’ve been eighteen for centuries, and I know. When you’re positive you’ll live for eternity, living loses meaning. I want to be able to grow up. To have a real life.” With you.
Tenspot said, “I want to grow up, too. I’ve been ten forever.”
“That’s why Jack didn’t want you to take a drink from the Fountain.” Nessa looked at Jack. “If you have to jump in to reverse the spell, we need to widen the hole.”
“I’m not going to jump in.”
“Why not? I thought that was the only way you can have what you want.”
“It is. But I don’t know what will happen when the spell is reversed.”
