Mr. Tennies smirked. “Little fairies told me.”

Sheriff Garrison said, “Come on, Tenner. Quit playing games. Criminal mischief and criminal trespass are both misdemeanors, carrying a sentence of up to sixty days. If Cori and Nessa decide to press charges, and you’re convicted in county court, you’re going to jail. Think of your boy. Tenspot needs you.”

Mr. Tennies flinched, and pressed his lips together sullenly.

Jack said, “I have a theory, Sheriff.”

Mr. Sterling inched closer. Sheriff Garrison raked a disgusted look over Mr. Tennies, and shrugged in resignation. “Well, spit it out then. Sure doesn’t look like Tenner is willing to talk.”

“Remember the fairies?” Jack spoke to Nessa, but he kept his gaze on Mr. Tennies.
