“So you two spotted Tenner running from the greenhouse and gave chase.” Sheriff Garrison glanced from Nessa to Jack, then pointed to Mr. Sterling. “How did you happen to show up in the nick of time, Tim?”

“Ida sent me. She got a phone call from Cori.” Mr. Sterling looked at Nessa. “Your sister tried to reach you on your phone and on the house line, but you didn’t answer. Ida sent me to check on you. I’m supposed to get her oregano while I’m here, too.”

“Two explanations down.” The sheriff crossed her arms, stood in spread-legged authority before a handcuffed Mr. Tennies. “Now it’s your turn, Tenner.”
