She blinked, shook her head, squinted to make sure she’d seen what she thought she had. How could Tenspot be driving his dad’s truck? The engine roared. Water and dirt roostered from the wheels as the clutch engaged. Jack, his raincoat flapping, half-fell, half-jumped over the last branch, and sprinted after Tenspot. The pickup accelerated, leaving him behind.

Nessa clutched Jack’s phone, slid out of the truck and raced around the wind-toppled tree as an antique car with an IDA’S EMPORIUM license plate affixed to the front appeared at the end of the drive, cutting off the pickup’s escape route. The truck headed straight for the old car without slowing.

Nessa screamed, “Look out!”
