The minute they reached the end of the trail, Nessa saw a figure crouched by the side of the greenhouse. She burst out of the woods and darted toward it. As Jack rushed into the yard behind her, the figure straightened and raced to a bicycle at the edge of the clearing. Jack yelled, “Stop!”
The trespasser slung his leg over the bike seat and took off down the drive. Nessa ran after him, angling across the sand. She called to Jack, “Get Bradley’s truck! It’s in the garage. The keys are under the seat.”
