Below is the text version of the audio.

She was willing to help.

Jack had so much to say to her, so much he had to hold inside, he was going to explode under the pressure. He had to move, had to put some distance between them.

He bolted from the office, rushed through the greenhouse and into the yard.

Sheriff Garrison’s patrol car nosed around the final bend in the drive. She braked to a halt, so close the heat of the engine blew over Jack in a smelly gust of diesel and hot rubber.

The sheriff stepped out. “In a hurry to get somewhere?”

“Always.” He released a breath. “But no matter how fast I move, I cannot seem to get there.”

The greenhouse door slammed. Nessa dashed across the grassy clearing.

“Everything’s fine with Cori and Holly,” the sheriff said. “I came to tell you I caught the creep who broke into your greenhouse. Got the call right after I left here this morning. He tried to rob Ida’s store.”

“The Emporium?” Nessa sucked in a breath. “Is Mrs. Kuhn all right?”

***** ABOUT THE AUTHOR *****

HL Carpenter is the pen name of a Florida-based mother/daughter duo who writes from their studios in Carpenter Country, a magical place that, like their stories, is unreal but not untrue. When they’re not writing, the Carpenters enjoy exploring the Land of What-If and practicing the fine art of Curiosity.

Also by HL Carpenter:

The SkyHorse. Fourteen year old Tovi thinks finding a flying horse is fabulous luck–until a mysterious stranger says finders aren’t always keepers.

Dream Stealer. Is stealing a dream better than losing your own?

Pirate Summer. When her brother disappears, Josey is sure she knows where he’s gone. And the only way to bring him home is to travel two hundred years into the past with a boy she can’t trust.
