Below is the text version of the audio.
(Show notes are beneath the text.)

Jack braked as the truck rounded the drive’s second curve and the fleeing cyclist came into view. The truck swayed, sliding on the wet sand and Nessa’s seatbelt tightened. She bit off a cry as her head snapped back. If Jack thought she was hurt, he would drive more slowly and the bike rider would get away.

She braced herself against the armrest as the cyclist vanished around the third curve.

Jack spun the steering wheel, punched the gas pedal, and sped into the next straightaway. Each twist in the drive forced him to brake and every slow-down gave the bike rider the advantage of another second.

Nessa pressed her foot into the floor well, as if she could control the gas pedal and add speed to their pursuit.

“Why’s he trying to outrace us?” she asked. “He must realize he can’t get away. And even if he does outrun us, we know where he lives.”

, but we have no proof he was here. If he gets to his home, the accusation will be our word against his.”

They rounded the final curve in the drive.

“That’s why he’s running!” Nessa shouted.

We’re new to the Audacity, the sound program we use for our audio recordings, and to sound effects in general. These are our thoughts on the current episode.

Recording. We recorded this segment in one take, after three practice runs with the microphone off.

Technical. The new Audacity program makes fine-tuning insertion points a breeze.

Comments. Getting enough enthusiasm into the narrative without sounding cheesy takes work.

Story changes. Lots of changes to the written version this week. Added additional text to make sure the installment stays in Nessa’s point of view, and added a bit more concern that the cyclist will get away.
