Below is the text version of the audio.
(Show notes are beneath the text.)

Nessa burst out of the woods. A person crouched by the side of the greenhouse, half-hidden from view. Who on earth—

Hey!” Without breaking stride, she darted toward the intruder. “What are you doing?”

The intruder straightened and raced to a bicycle parked at the edge of the clearing.

Jack rushed into the yard behind Nessa. He yelled, “Stop!”

The trespasser jumped on the bike and took off down the drive.

Nessa ran after him, angling across the yard in an effort to intercept the bike. The loose sand clung to her feet and slowed her progress. She lowered her head and pumped her arms. Breathing hard, she struggled to pick up speed even as the biker easily began to outpace her. She couldn’t let the trespasser get away! She had to keep the bike in sight!

Behind her, Jack shouted at the intruder again. “Stop!”

Nessa kept running as she called to Jack, “Get Bradley’s truck! It’s in the garage. The keys are under the seat.”

SHOW NOTES

We’re new to the Audacity, the sound program we use for our audio recordings, and to sound effects in general. These are our thoughts on the current episode.

Recording. We recorded this segment in one take, after four practice runs with the microphone off.

Technical. Instead of reading the text from the laptop, this week we printed out the section we planned to record and read from that. The resulting audio was cleaner, without as much background noise. Sometimes we forget how noisy the laptop is.

Comments. Dry mouth syndrome is not a problem in Carpenter Country. And sipping water, which seems to be contradictory to making fewer “smacking” noises, is the cure. More water to get less water noises. How curious!

Story changes. Lots of changes to the written version this week. Apparently we forgot to add drama and action to the first version. How very disappointing! Well, those elements are included now.
